Fruits
The commercial case for Turkish strawberry is timing. Protected cultivation around Silifke in Mersin puts fruit on the market from mid-December through to May, which is exactly the window when northern European domestic supply is absent and the alternative is Egypt or Morocco.
Fortuna is the winter workhorse. Rubygem and Sabrina extend into spring, and the Aydın and Bursa open-field crop takes over in April and May for the domestic and short-haul market.
This is the most perishable product we handle. Fruit is picked into the final punnet in the field — never re-handled — forced-air cooled to 1 °C within 90 minutes, and shipped under MAP. Most export volume goes by air; sea freight is realistic only to Black Sea and eastern Mediterranean ports.

The winter variety and the backbone of the Silifke programme. Uniform conical fruit, bright glossy red, firm, with good flavour for a winter berry at 7–9° brix. It is the firmness that makes it exportable — it holds shape and colour through a 5-day chain where softer varieties collapse.
A firm, deep-red conical berry with better flavour than Fortuna at 8–10° brix and slightly larger fruit. Runs January to May and is the quality option within the protected programme. Marginally softer than Fortuna.
A large early variety with bright red conical fruit and a sweet, aromatic character at 8–10° brix. Sizes well — 35 to 50 g is normal — which suits premium punnet programmes. Shorter shelf life than Fortuna.
The earliest variety in the protected programme, cropping from mid-November. Large, bright red, wedge-conical, sweet at 8–10° brix. Vigorous and high-yielding but noticeably softer than Fortuna, so it is packed for short chains and regional markets.
